WE KNOW THE FOLKS WHO CAN HELP.
Sometimes our scholars need access to resources like a safe place to sleep or a meeting with a therapist. That's when we tap into our strong network of partners to connect them to all the good people who are ready and willing to help.
Housing
Homelessness is a huge barrier to education and employment, and many of our students struggle with this. Pivotal connects them to local transitional housing providers like Bill Wilson Center and First Place for Youth.
CalFresh
CalFresh is the new name of the food stamp program in California. Like housing, food insecurity is a serious issue for foster youth who have aged out of living in a foster home. We help them through the CalFresh application process to ensure they have daily access to healthy food.
Mental Health
Most of our foster youth have experienced trauma as a result of multiple foster home placements and issues surrounding removal from their original family home. Many are struggling with mental health challenges, like depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Our Pivotal Coaches know the signs, and do what they can to encourage foster youth to get the mental health support they need. Treatment is usually covered by Medi-Cal.
The Hub
The Hub is a foster youth drop-in center in San Jose where youth can attend health counseling, independent living workshops, receive meals, shower, and do their laundry, all for free.
