LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The annual Leadership Academy is a day-long event for our high school students where they can connect with their peers, meet with Pivotal staff and learn about what to expect in the coming school year and the support Pivotal can provide for them. The Leadership Academy creates a fun, relaxed setting where our scholars can get to know their coaches better and introduces them to the broader Pivotal community and other caring adults who are dedicated to students’ ultimate success.  Scholars learn about growth mindset and build essential education knowledge on their path towards graduation in grade-specific break-out sessions.

JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS

We know that early work experience is critical for our students to build life-long skills and grow their professional networks.  Our coaches help scholars prepare for summer jobs and connect them to summer internship opportunities in the community.  For high school students who don’t have summer jobs and internships, Pivotal hosts a Summer Challenge, where scholars have the chance to try something new, participate in fun activities and stay active over the summer break while earning a little cash.

CLUB PIVOTAL

Monthly Club Pivotal group activities build on the sense of belonging and positive relationships established at the annual Leadership Academy. With frequent school changes, busy schedules working with many professionals and other barriers, many foster youth scholars lack opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities. 

Club Pivotal provides a safe, supportive environment for our high school scholars to work with their peers and learn and practice skills together. Through fun, creative activities, our scholars develop their organization and time management skills, explore potential careers, and get tips on studying and test-taking.

It feels good because you’re next to someone who understands you.
